Secondary (Middle and High School)
Middle and High School at CMA
At Colorado Military Academy (CMA), our secondary program (grades 7-12) equips students with the skills, knowledge, and character necessary to thrive in college, careers, and beyond. Our approach emphasizes leadership, discipline, and innovation, setting students on a path to success in the 21st century.
CMA’s rigorous curriculum challenges students to excel academically while preparing them for higher education and meaningful careers.
- Advanced Courses: Students can take honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, along with concurrent enrollment opportunities through local colleges and universities.
- Specialized Programs: Our offerings include aerospace studies, STEAM-focused courses, and project-based learning activities that foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- CKLA Foundations: Middle school students (grades 7-8) build on the strong literacy foundation established in elementary school with Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA), supplemented by additional resources to meet diverse learning needs.
Leadership is at the heart of CMA’s secondary program. Students develop responsibility, teamwork, and decision-making skills through:
- Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Program: Beginning in 7th grade, students can join the Civil Air Patrol, progressing through a structured leadership program that includes aerospace skills and the opportunity to earn a pilot’s license by graduation. CAP also instills discipline, respect, and resilience.
- Cadet Competitions: Students have the opportunity to participate in Civil Air Patrol Cadet Competitions, showcasing their skills in aerospace, leadership, physical fitness, and teamwork at local, regional, and national levels.
- Service and Community Engagement: Students engage in projects that develop leadership skills while fostering a commitment to service and civic responsibility.
CMA provides a variety of extracurricular activities that enhance academic and personal growth:
- Athletics: Opportunities to join sports teams that promote physical fitness and teamwork.
- Clubs and Organizations: From robotics and coding to debate and fine arts, there’s something for every student.
- Academic Competitions: Students participate in regional and national competitions, including STEAM and leadership challenges.
- Cadet Competitions: A unique opportunity for students in the CAP program to test their skills in various areas of cadet life, further developing discipline and camaraderie.
CMA prepares students for life after high school by providing:
- College and Career Readiness: Comprehensive counseling and support services help students explore postsecondary options, complete college applications, and earn industry certifications.
- Military Pathways: With a focus on leadership and aerospace, many graduates pursue opportunities at top military colleges and service academies. CMA has a proven track record of success in these fields. CMA’s membership as an Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) institution provides graduates with guaranteed acceptance into The Citadel and Norwich University, further expanding their opportunities for higher education and leadership development.
- STEAM and Innovation: Our dedicated STEAM lab and project-based learning curriculum inspire students to solve real-world challenges through science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
