School Nurse
School Nurse & Health Services
At Colorado Military Academy (CMA), the health and well-being of our students are a top priority. Our school nurse provides essential health services to ensure students remain safe, healthy, and ready to learn.
Our school nurse is available to assist students with:
- First Aid & Illness Management – Assessing and addressing minor injuries and illnesses during school hours.
- Medication Administration – Ensuring students receive prescribed medications according to physician and parent/guardian instructions.
- Chronic Condition Support – Helping students manage conditions such as asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, and more.
- Immunization Compliance – Monitoring student immunization records in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) requirements.
- Health Screenings – Conducting routine vision, hearing, and other screenings as required by state guidelines.
- Health Education & Prevention – Promoting wellness through initiatives such as hygiene education, illness prevention, and Vaping Prevention Education Grant (VPEG) programs.
- CPR & First Aid Training – CMA has two certified CPR instructors on staff who provide CPR and First Aid training for students, staff, and families. These classes ensure our community is prepared to respond to medical emergencies
To help prevent the spread of illness, please keep your child home if they experience:
- A fever of 100.4°F or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning).
- Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.
- Severe coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
- Symptoms of contagious illness (e.g., pink eye, strep throat, flu, COVID-19).
- Rash of unknown origin or skin infections.
If a student becomes ill at school, parents/guardians will be contacted for pick-up.
If your child requires medication during the school day, including prescription or over-the-counter medications, the following must be provided:
- A completed medication authorization form signed by a healthcare provider and parent/guardian.
- Medication in its original labeled container (prescription medications must have a pharmacy label).
- Medications stored and administered through the nurse’s office (unless an exception is granted for self-carry, such as inhalers or EpiPens, with authorization).
CMA follows Colorado state immunization requirements for school attendance. Parents must provide updated immunization records upon enrollment and as required by state law. Exemption forms (medical or non-medical) must be submitted annually if applicable.
For the latest immunization guidelines, visit the CDPHE website.
Students with severe allergies, asthma, seizures, diabetes, or other medical conditions requiring an emergency action plan should submit a health care plan completed by their physician. These plans help ensure staff can provide appropriate care in case of an emergency.
