Honor Guard
Honor Guard at CMA
The Colorado Military Academy Honor Guard is a prestigious and elite student-led group dedicated to upholding the values of respect, integrity, and service to our school and country. This distinguished program provides students with the opportunity to represent the Academy at various school events, ceremonies, and national observances, while learning the discipline and precision associated with military traditions.
At Colorado Military Academy, the Honor Guard is not just about ceremony — it's about honoring the sacrifices made by those who serve and the tradition of military excellence. Members of the Honor Guard are selected based on their commitment to leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Through rigorous training, students develop skills in military drill, ceremonial protocols, and public speaking, all of which are essential components of the Honor Guard experience.
Honor Guard members are expected to:
Attend regular practice sessions to maintain proficiency in ceremonial drills and routines.
Participate in school events, including assemblies, graduations, flag ceremonies, and local community celebrations.
Serve as role models for other students by exhibiting leadership qualities, including responsibility, punctuality, and respect for others.
Represent Colorado Military Academy with professionalism and honor at all times.
Honor Guard members undergo specialized training in a variety of areas:
Military Drill: Learning the precision and coordination required for military formations and flag-handling techniques.
Ceremonial Protocols: Understanding the formal customs of military ceremonies, such as how to handle the American flag, salute, and stand at attention.
Leadership Skills: Developing public speaking and leadership abilities, as Honor Guard members often serve as spokespeople for the school during events.
Teamwork and Discipline: Working together as a unit to perform flawlessly under pressure, fostering a sense of unity and mutual respect.
CAP cadets are expected to demonstrate the Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. Students are enrolled in a CAP class as part of their daily academic schedule. Cadets may also be required to attend flight time, physical training (PT), recruiting events, or special ceremonies outside of school hours. They are expected to wear the CAP uniform and maintain good academic and behavioral standing. As cadets progress through the program, they can earn promotions and gain access to greater responsibilities and recognition.
Joining the Honor Guard is a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable skills that extend beyond the Academy. Students learn discipline, precision, and teamwork, while also gaining a deep sense of pride and accomplishment from representing the school in such an important capacity.
Students who participate in the Honor Guard develop leadership and public speaking skills that are invaluable for future academic and career pursuits. Whether they go on to serve in the military or pursue other professions, Honor Guard members are respected for their dedication and work ethic.
