Civil Air Patrol Program Overview
Our Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Program
At Colorado Military Academy (CMA), our partnership with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) provides students with unmatched leadership, aerospace, and character development opportunities that prepare them for success in school, service, and life.
CMA received its official CAP charter in 2017 and proudly hosts CO-805, one of only a few school-based squadrons in the United States. Today, CO-805 is the largest CAP squadron in Colorado, a testament to our students’ dedication and the strength of our program.

The Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, offering a nationally recognized cadet program focused on aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness, and moral leadership. Students who participate in CAP become part of a disciplined, high-achieving community that challenges them to reach their highest potential.
CMA offers a diverse range of student clubs to foster creativity, critical thinking, and community engagement. These clubs provide opportunities for students to explore their interests, build friendships, and develop leadership skills.
Here are just a few of the clubs we offer:
- Science Club: Dive into hands-on experiments and projects to explore the wonders of science and technology.
- Drama Club: Express your creativity through acting, stagecraft, and performances.
- Chess Club: Hone your strategic thinking and compete with fellow students in the timeless game of chess.
- eSports Club: Collaborate with teammates in competitive gaming while learning about teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Gardening Club: Learn about sustainability and healthy living by tending to our school garden and engaging in farm-to-table activities.
We are continually adding new clubs based on student interests. CMA encourages all students to get involved and discover their passions outside of the classroom!
For more information about clubs, please ask your student’s classroom teacher.
CMA’s CAP program offers unique advantages not found at traditional schools:
Pathway to a Pilot’s License: Cadets have the opportunity to earn a private pilot’s license by the time they graduate from CMA.
Hands-On Flight Training: Through access to flight simulators, orientation flights, and instruction from certified aviation professionals.
Leadership from Day One: Cadets take on increasing leadership roles, mentor peers, and learn to lead with integrity and accountability.
National Recognition: CAP cadets can compete for national scholarships, awards, and attend prestigious summer encampments and academies.
STEM-Focused Enrichment: CAP activities include rocket building, drone training, and aerospace science aligned with CMA’s strong STEAM foundation.
CAP cadets are expected to demonstrate the Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. Students are enrolled in a CAP class as part of their daily academic schedule. Cadets may also be required to attend flight time, physical training (PT), recruiting events, or special ceremonies outside of school hours. They are expected to wear the CAP uniform and maintain good academic and behavioral standing. As cadets progress through the program, they can earn promotions and gain access to greater responsibilities and recognition.
Community Engagement: Cadets participate in community service projects, helping them connect with and positively impact their communities.
Competitions and Drills: Cadets engage in regional and national CAP competitions, such as drill meets, academic bowls, and athletic events, where they can showcase their skills and represent Colorado Military Academy.
Scholarship and Career Pathways: The ROTC program offers exclusive scholarship opportunities and connections to military academies and higher education institutions, providing cadets with potential financial support and career direction.
- Honor Guard: Exemplary Cadets accepted to the CMA Honor Guard team have the opportunity to present colors for CMA ceremonies as well as other state-wide events.
