Colorado Military Academy (CMA) welcomes all students and is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse and inclusive student population. Enrollment at CMA is open to all students residing in the state of Colorado.

CMA does not discriminate based on:

• Disability
• Race, creed, or color
• Sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression
• National origin, language, or religion
• Ancestry or need for special education services
• Any other protected class as outlined in 20-30.5-507(3), C.R.S.

Colorado Military Academy operates as a public charter school of choice and does not assign students based on geographic boundaries.

All prospective students—whether residing within District 11 or outside the district—must submit an application through CMA’s choice enrollment process in order to be considered for admission.

CMA utilizes a single, unified enrollment and lottery process for all applicants. The school does not maintain separate enrollment processes for in-district and out-of-district students.

For reporting and compliance purposes, applicants are identified as either in-district (residing within District 11 boundaries) or out-of-district (residing outside District 11 boundaries) based on their legal residence at the time of application.

CMA serves students in Pre-K through Grade 12. To enroll, students must meet the following age requirements:

• Pre-K: Students must be 4 years old on or before October 1 and be potty trained.
• Kindergarten: Students must be 5 years old on or before October 1 of the enrollment year.
• 1st Grade: Students must be 6 years old on or before October 1 of the enrollment year.
• Students must reside in the state of Colorado.

Students who are members of selected groups will be granted priority enrollment in the following order:

1. Children of School Employees
   • • Includes children of staff or faculty members who:
       • Work at least half-time.
       • Have full or joint custodyof the child.
       • Began employment on or before the first day of schoolof the year they apply.
     • Note: Priority enrollment for this group is limited to 10% of total enrollment.

2. Siblings of Currently Enrolled Students
   • Includes siblings (half, step, adopted) or other children cared for by the same guardian, such as:
     • • Cousins, nieces, or nephews under the care of grandparents or guardians (must meet 50% custody requirements in joint custody situations).
3. Siblings of Students Accepted for Future Enrollment
4. Other Applicants
   • All other families are considered after priority groups.

Upon enrollment, CMA will collect the following information:

• Proof of age and identity
• Immunization records or exemption forms
• Home Language Survey
• Prior transcripts (if applicable)
• IEP or 504 plans (if applicable)
• Education and behavioral records
• Family Economic Data Form (for Free/Reduced-Price Meals)
• McKinney-Vento Form (for students experiencing homelessness)
• Medical response plans (if applicable)
• Other information as necessary

In accordance with C.R.S. § 22-33-106, Colorado Military Academy may deny admission to any student who meets one or more of the following criteria:

• Graduation from the 12th grade
• Failure to meet age requirements for kindergarten or first grade enrollment
• Having been expelled from any school district during the preceding 12 months
• Failure to comply with the immunization requirements set forth in 25-4-901 C.R.S., et seq.
• Behavior in another school district during the preceding 12 months that is detrimental to the welfare or safety of other pupils or of school personnel

Any denial of admission under this section shall be made in accordance with applicable due process procedures, and families shall be notified in writing of the reason(s) for the denial and their right to appeal.

CMA participates in Colorado’s open enrollment program pursuant to C.R.S. § 22-36-101 and administers its own enrollment and lottery process as a District 11–authorized charter school.

CMA may deny enrollment to choice enrollment applicants for reasons permitted under state law, including but not limited to:

• There is a lack of space or teaching staff within a particular program or school requested, in which case priority shall be given to resident students applying for admission to such program or school.
• The school requested does not offer appropriate programs or is not structured or equipped with the necessary facilities to meet the special needs of the pupil, or does not offer a particular program requested.
• The pupil does not meet the established eligibility criteria for participation in a particular program, including age requirements, course prerequisites, and required levels of performance.
• A desegregation plan is in effect for the school district, and such denial is necessary in order to enable compliance with such desegregation plan.
• The student has been expelled, or is in the process of being expelled, for the reasons specified in C.R.S. § 22-33-106(1)(c.5) or (1)(d), or the student may be denied permission to enroll pursuant to C.R.S. § 22-33-106(3)(a), (3)(b), (3)(c), (3)(e), or (3)(f).

All offers of enrollment through CMA’s choice enrollment process are considered conditional pending:

• Verification of student records and information
• Confirmation of available space, programs, and services
• Determination that CMA is structured and equipped to meet the student’s educational needs in accordance with state and federal law

If, upon review, CMA determines that statutory grounds for denial exist under
C.R.S. § 22-33-106 or C.R.S. § 22-36-101, the conditional enrollment offer may be rescinded.

Families will be notified in writing of the reason(s) for denial and the procedures for appeal in accordance with state law.
