Gifted & Talented
Nurturing Excellence at Every Level
At Colorado Military Academy (CMA), we recognize and celebrate the unique talents and potential of gifted and talented students. Our program is designed to provide a challenging, supportive, and enriching educational experience that fosters intellectual growth, creativity, and leadership.
The Gifted and Talented (GT) Program at CMA is an individualized educational approach for students identified as gifted. These students demonstrate exceptional abilities in one or more areas, including academics, leadership, creativity, or specific talents such as music, art, or athletics. The program ensures that gifted students receive the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
CMA follows a comprehensive and inclusive process to identify gifted and talented students. This process includes:
Multiple Assessments: Utilizing standardized tests, teacher recommendations, parent input, and classroom performance.
Holistic Review: Considering academic, social, emotional, and creative characteristics.
Ongoing Evaluation: Regularly reviewing student performance to ensure appropriate placement and support.
Our GT program incorporates a variety of strategies and resources to engage and inspire gifted learners:
Differentiated Instruction: Tailoring curriculum and teaching methods to meet individual student needs.
Advanced Coursework: Offering opportunities for acceleration, compacted curriculum, and advanced-level classes in both elementary and secondary grades.
Enrichment Opportunities: Providing access to STEAM-based projects, Civil Air Patrol (CAP) programs, and other specialized activities that enhance learning.
Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs): Developing personalized goals and strategies to help each student reach their full potential.
As a school that values leadership, CMA integrates leadership development into the GT program. Gifted students are encouraged to:
Take on leadership roles in school activities and projects.
Participate in team-building exercises and problem-solving challenges.
Develop critical thinking and communication skills essential for future success.
We understand that gifted students often face unique social and emotional challenges. CMA provides:
Dedicated Support Staff: Teachers and counselors trained in gifted education.
Peer Networks: Opportunities to connect with other gifted students.
SEL Programs: Social-emotional learning activities tailored to gifted learners.
CMA believes in a strong partnership between families and the school to support gifted learners. We offer:
Parent Resources: Resources and strategies for parents of gifted students.
Regular Communication: Updates on student progress and program developments.
Community Events: Showcasing the achievements and projects of our GT students.
